In the vast expanse of Australia’s highways and suburban roads, fostering a culture of safety and cooperation among road users is paramount. Enter Truck Friendly, a national caravan road safety program spearheaded by Ken and Jenny Wilson. With a mission to educate and unite drivers, Truck Friendly is more than just a program—it’s a movement towards safer roads for all.
Oricom are delighted to continue their partnership in spreading the word of the amazing work Truck Friendly are doing right across Australia.
What is Truck Friendly?
Truck Friendly isn’t just a Facebook page or a sticker on the back of a caravan; it’s a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting road safety education and fostering a supportive relationship between caravanners, RV drivers, and truckers. At its core, Truck Friendly seeks to eliminate the divisive “Us and Them” mentality prevalent on our roads, promoting mutual respect and understanding among all road users.
Origins and Objectives
Truck Friendly’s journey began in 2016 when Ken Wilson recognized a need for comprehensive education in the caravan and RV community. Teaming up with partners like Bundaberg Regional Council, Caravanning Queensland, and RV Lifestyle Village, the program officially launched on June 14, 2019. Its primary goal? To equip drivers with the knowledge and skills needed for safe towing and harmonious road interactions.
Spreading the Word
Through social media channels and forthcoming publications, such as Ken’s upcoming book, Truck Friendly aims to spread awareness of its mission far and wide. By engaging with followers online and providing valuable resources, such as safety articles and driving guides, the program empowers drivers to make informed decisions on the road.
A Personal Touch
For Ken and Jenny Wilson, the creators of Truck Friendly, this initiative is more than just a project—it’s a passion. With over 20 years of caravanning experience and a deep commitment to road safety, they pour their hearts and souls into this program, running it from their own household budget while juggling full-time jobs.
Looking Ahead
Truck Friendly’s journey is far from over. With plans to expand its educational workshops and release a comprehensive towing manual, the program is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come. But to achieve its goals, Truck Friendly needs support—from sponsors to volunteers, every contribution counts in the quest for safer roads.
