To access the WiFi network mode, users must download the latest version of the firmware update on both devices: the Parent and the Baby units. After that, you are expected to turn ON this feature from the Parent Unit’s main menu. That will allow the Baby Unit and the Parent Unit to be connected to a single WiFi router.

To get the latest firmware version for this feature, connect the camera via WiFi with KODAK Smart Home App.

Conditions for Switching the Parent Unit Between Auto and Router Modes

Several conditions are required when the Parent Unit switches between the Auto and Router modes.

  • The camera and the Parent unit must connect to the internet via the same primary WiFi SSID. If either of them connects to an alternative WiFi SSID, it will be impossible to find the other pair.
  • Do not remove the camera from the mobile application.
  • Do not pair the camera to another WiFi SSID while the camera and Parent Unit are already connected to a specific WiFi router.

Information Heading:

The Router or Auto mode only supports split-screens when the Parent unit Firmware is version 04.02.42 or higher.

How Does the Parent Unit Connect with the Baby Unit

The Parent Unit can connect to the baby unit through two different methods: the Router and Direct modes. The choice of method is dependent on the arrangement of the devices in the building. However, it is noteworthy to mention that the router mode is the more suitable option for extending the units’ distance.

Router Mode

In this mode, the Parent Unit will always connect via the WiFi router to access the camera. To select this mode, follow these steps.

  1. Press the menu button on the monitor. It is an icon with three horizontal lines.
  2. Navigate to “Network Setting” by using the up and down arrow buttons. Press OK.
  3. Using the left and right arrows, go to “Connection Auto switch to give the optimal range” and click OK to apply it.

Direct Mode

In this mode, the Parent Unit will always connect directly to the camera. Follow the following instructions to activate this mode.

  1. Press the menu button on the monitor. It is an icon with three horizontal lines.
  2. Navigate to “Network Setting” by using the up and down arrow buttons. Press OK.
  3. Using the left and right arrows, search for the direct mode icon. It appears as a picture of a camera and a monitor with an exchange sign between them.
  4. Click OK to apply it.

How to Increase the Distance Range Between the Units

To increase the range between the Baby and Parent units, the Wi-Fi router should be located at the center of both units. With such a set-up, the router mode is the most effective method to use. That will help to extend the range and reception from one room to another.

On the other hand, some arrangements may not favor the router mode. Thus, they will not help to extend the range between the units. In such an arrangement, as illustrated below, the Direct mode is the most effective connection method.
