At Oricom, we believe in the importance of support and care, especially when it comes to health and well-being. That’s why we are proud to announce our sponsorship of 500 thermometers to Lymphoma Australia, an organisation dedicated to ensuring no Australian faces a lymphoma diagnosis alone.
Lymphoma Australia, a non-profit organisation, offers vital support and education to Australians facing lymphoma, a complex blood cancer. Chemotherapy, the primary treatment, often brings severe side effects, including a heightened risk of infection. Patients must vigilantly monitor their temperature daily, necessitating a reliable thermometer. Recognising these challenges, Lymphoma Australia has been providing treatment support kits for the past year. These kits contain essential products designed to help patients manage the various side effects of their treatment, enhancing their ability to cope with the rigors of lymphoma therapy.
Understanding Lymphoma
Lymphoma is the sixth most common cancer in Australia and the most prevalent among young Australians under 30. With over 80 different subtypes, each requiring specific treatments, navigating lymphoma can be incredibly complex. Lymphoma Australia provides crucial support across three key areas: patient support and education, nursing education, and patient advocacy.
Patient Support and Education
Lymphoma Australia’s commitment to patient and carer support is unwavering. They offer a nurse support phone line, experiencing a remarkable 250% increase in demand over the past year alone. This lifeline provides guidance on managing side effects, treatment concerns, and educational resources tailored to each individual’s needs. Their website, YouTube channel, newsletters, and social media groups further empower patients and carers with vital information and peer support.
Nursing Education
Education is pivotal in improving patient outcomes. Lymphoma Australia ensures nurses nationwide receive comprehensive training through hospital visits, online modules, and an annual nursing conference. By enhancing nurses’ understanding of lymphoma and its treatments, Lymphoma Australia strengthens the support network available to patients during their journey.
Patient Advocacy
Beyond immediate support, Lymphoma Australia advocates tirelessly for improved access to medications. In Australia, the pathway to public funding for new treatments can be lengthy—averaging 10-15 years from clinical trials to availability. Lymphoma Australia works closely with government and stakeholders to streamline this process, advocating for timely access to essential treatments for all Australians.
Oricom’s Commitment
Oricom is honoured to contribute 500 thermometers to Lymphoma Australia. These thermometers will support their ongoing efforts, ensuring patients receive the care and attention they deserve. By fostering awareness and support, we aim to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by lymphoma.
